Serena Syme Hildenbrand

My research examines privacy, data protection, digital identity and the impacts of artificial intelligence.  As a public servant and former in-house lawyer, I have experience with large-scale technology projects and the systems and structures needed to protect data in an operational context. My PhD thesis (awarded a prestigious Deakin medal) addressed public-sector data sharing, human-rights approaches to minimising privacy harm, and organisational obligations after major data breaches. My current postdoctoral work considers how AI is straining core concepts in Australia's privacy and information laws.
