BIO
Ellen Henzen is a certified practicing speech pathologist and lecturer in Speech Pathology. Ellen comes to Deakin University following a strong interest in practice education and supporting students’ education to ensure they are prepared for entering the profession. Ellen also works clinically as a speech pathologist working with adult clients with communication and swallowing needs and has a strong focus on understanding and sustaining motivation through meaningful and functional intervention programs. This allows Ellen to bring insight of current speech pathology practice to inform teaching and curriculum development. She is currently completing a Graduate Certificate of Higher Education (Deakin University) to build her education skills and knowledge to continue to inform her teaching practice.
A recent teaching achievement for Ellen has been her involvement in the development of the Swallowing and Mealtime simulated placement as part of the Master of Speech Pathology program. This placement has been developed to provide students with a simulated placement experience to build their capacity around supporting safe swallowing and mealtimes for people with disability.
As part of her role at Deakin University, Ellen is a Placement Partnerships Coordinator where she has developed ongoing relationships with local providers to collaborate on how to best support the Barwon Southwest region and the profession ongoing.
