Associate ProfessorBart Ziino

I'm one of Australia's leading scholars of Australians and the First World War, with extensive publications on commemoration and memorialisation, grief and mourning, war and gender, archives and war, and the emotional experience of enduring the First World War. I am the author of A Distant Grief: Australians, War Graves and the Great War, and editor of multiple volumes and special issues, including Remembering the First World War.

I've taught history at the University of Melbourne, La Trobe University and commenced at Deakin as an Australian Research Council postdoctoral fellow, before taking on my current role as Senior Lecturer in Twentieth Century History. I'm also aam an active member of Deakin's Centre for Contemporary Histories (see link in side bar for more details).

I have supervised award-winning theses at Honours, Masters and PhD level, in fields as diverse as war and conflict, gender history and urban history.
