RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research began with only an ecological focus. During my Honours, I investigated long term vegetation disassembly in ecosystems affected by Phytopthora cinnamomi in the Brisbane Ranges National Park, including the ecological responses of indicator species such as grass trees (Xanthorrhoea australis).  This work sparked my interest in long-term ecological observation and environmental change, and has since expanded into a broader, multidisciplinary research direction.

My PhD focuses on Traditional Ecological Knowledge of weather and climate in the South Pacific. The research examines how recognition of environmental indicators and seasonal knowledge varies across generations, and whether younger people are becoming less familiar with these forecasting practices. It also explores how connection to nature may influence recognition of this knowledge and support for pro environmental behaviours.

As part of this work, I will contribute to community and school-based biodiversity monitoring through the ClimateWatch citizen science program, investigating how participatory monitoring of seasonal indicators can strengthen engagement with traditional knowledge while documenting how environmental/climate change may be influencing these signals over time.
