TEACHING EXPERTISE
My teaching and mentoring interests are closely aligned with my research expertise in molecular biology, plant pathology, genetics, genomics and molecular diagnostics. I am particularly interested in supporting students to develop both a strong conceptual understanding of molecular and plant sciences and the practical laboratory skills required to apply these concepts in research and diagnostic settings.
I have experience providing hands-on training and guidance in molecular biology and plant pathology techniques, including DNA and RNA extraction, PCR and qPCR, molecular assay development, pathogen detection, experimental design, data interpretation and laboratory workflows. I also enjoy mentoring students and early-career researchers in research planning, troubleshooting, scientific writing and the critical evaluation of experimental results.
My teaching approach emphasises practical learning, scientific reasoning and connecting fundamental molecular biology concepts with real-world applications in plant health, biotechnology and biosecurity. I am particularly interested in contributing to teaching and student supervision in areas such as molecular biology, genetics, genomics, plant pathology, biotechnology and molecular diagnostics.
