MsIsobelle Morgan

Isobelle (IzzI) Morgan is a PhD student at Deakin University researching colonial photographs and documents from the Pacific. Her research examines how photographic and written records were created, circulated, and preserved, analysing their content and archival trajectories to understand their dual role as sources for interpreting the colonial past and as historical objects with lives of their own. Guided by a decolonial approach, her research also explores how colonial collections might be made more accessible to the communities they depict. Her research is supervised by Dr Jonathan Ritchie and Dr Lorinda Cramer.

Prior to commencing her PhD, IzzI completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), majoring in History, minoring in Journalism, at Deakin University. Her Honours thesis examined the lifecycle of a 1954 patrol report from the Territory of Papua and New Guinea, and demonstrated how studying the creation, circulation, and preservation of colonial records can illuminate broader histories of colonial administration, knowledge production, and archives.
