BIO

Associate Prof. Felipe Barreto Schuch is interested in the relationship between physical exercise and psychiatric disorders. His work focuses on how lifestyle factors—especially physical activity—can influence mental health outcomes.

Through systematic reviews and meta-analyses, he has shown that regular physical activity can produce significant antidepressant effects. In addition to clinical outcomes, he studies the biological mechanisms behind these effects. Another important area of his work involves population-level studies, examining how physical activity and sedentary behavior affect mental health across different groups.

Prof. Felipe Schuch has been listed among the most influential researchers globally by citation metrics. His work plays a key role in the development of “lifestyle psychiatry,” a field that emphasizes the importance of behaviors such as exercise, sleep, and diet in the prevention and treatment of mental disorders.
