MissClaire Zhoumei Yan

I am a nursing academic with experience in tertiary education, simulation-based learning, clinical nursing practice, and research. My teaching philosophy is grounded in creating engaging, evidence-based, student-centred learning environments that foster critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and confidence in future nurses.

I have taught in undergraduate and facilitated postgraduate nursing programs in my previous University. As a Bachelor of Nursing tutor, I facilitated tutorials using case-based learning, guided students through complex pathophysiology and pharmacology concepts, and promoted active participation through clinical scenarios and collaborative discussion. I also contributed to assessment by marking written assignments and oral presentations, providing constructive feedback to support students' academic development.

As a Nursing Simulation Laboratory Demonstrator, I facilitated practical classes that enabled students to develop essential clinical skills in a safe, simulated environment. Drawing on my clinical expertise as a Registered Nurse, I supported students in developing competence, confidence, patient safety awareness, and clinical decision-making before entering professional practice. My previous role as a Simulation Laboratory Technician Assistant further strengthened my expertise in simulation pedagogy, laboratory preparation, and the delivery of high-quality practical teaching.

Complementing my academic experience, I have worked casually as a Registered Nurse in Australian residential aged care and previously spent four years as a Registered Nurse in a nephrology ward in China. These diverse clinical experiences allow me to connect theoretical concepts with authentic clinical examples, preparing students for the realities of contemporary nursing practice across different healthcare settings.

I am passionate about supporting student success through inclusive, interactive, and clinically relevant teaching. My goal is to inspire students to become reflective, evidence-informed, and compassionate nurses who deliver high-quality person-centred care. I am committed to continually enhancing my teaching practice through scholarly activities, curriculum innovation, simulation-based education, and ongoing engagement with nursing education research.
