BIO

Dr Lan Tong is a Research Fellow in the Centre for Disaster Resilience and Recovery (CDRR) at Deakin University. Her research spans development economics and the economics of disasters, with a particular focus on disaster resilience, community recovery and evidence-informed public policy.

Her current research examines disaster impacts, recovery resources, social capital, and the fairness and effectiveness of disaster support, using large-scale longitudinal and administrative datasets. She also studies the long-term effects of public policies and institutions, including land reforms, land-related legal systems and subsidy policies, on economic development.

Dr Tong's research has been published in internationally recognised journals, including the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, the Journal of Comparative Economics, and the Australian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics.

Lan Tong works collaboratively with researchers, government agencies and humanitarian organisations, including the Australian Red Cross, Natural Hazards Research Australia, and Emergency Management Victoria, to translate research into policy and practice.
