DrTze Chuan 'Chewie' Ang

Teaching experience:

Dr Ang is a passionate educator in finance. His teaching journey started 20 years ago in 2007 when he was a tutor at the University of Melbourne. His broad teaching portfolio covers major undergraduate and postgraduate finance subjects, ranging from introductory finance, business finance, and banking to corporate finance, investments, and derivatives. Whilst Dr Ang is a specialist in teaching large classes (over 600 students), he enjoys teaching in various forms of classroom, whether it is a small tutorial, online seminar or a large lecture with hundreds of students.

Teaching philosophy and approach:

Informed by feedback from students and practitioners, as well as pedagogical advancements, Dr Ang constantly improves the finance curriculum to incorporate recent developments in finance. He is known for adopting authentic and inclusive learning activities in his teaching. Students enjoy his use of innovative teaching methods, which incorporate case-studies, video clips, role-playing, simulations, etc. His effective, easy-to-understand teaching style receives excellent feedback every year. His teaching approach has influenced the discipline and has been implemented by others.

Team building:

At Deakin Business School, Dr Ang has been the gatekeeper of the finance major, teaching the Finance Capstone subject. Recently, he moved to teach introductory finance. Throughout the years, he has helped to nurture a team of colleagues with strong teaching capabilities.

Mentoring and supervision:

While maintaining high academic standards through authentic assessments, Dr Ang is also dedicated to help his students succeed. He has successfully mentored and supervised undergraduate and doctoral students, who were well placed in universities and industries all over the world.
