DrHoa Nguyen

Dr Hoa Nguyen is a Senior Lecturer in Finance at Deakin Business School. Her research is in empirical corporate finance, with an established track record of original work in derivatives and corporate risk management. Her more recent projects extend this foundation to focus on  liquidity management, climate-related financial risks, and how firms adjust their financing and risk-management strategies in response to evolving market and regulatory environments.

She brings extensive teaching experience across both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, having taught a broad suite of finance units in the area of Corporate Finance, Derivatives, Financial Markets, and Financial Modelling. Her teaching practice reflects both breadth and depth, combining technical expertise with an applied, industry-engaged approach. Over the past decade, she has led major curriculum innovations introducing live trading experiences into a first-year finance unit, embedding interactive financial simulations in a second-year unit, and integrating complex, real-world case studies into the final-year Finance major capstone to strengthen students’ analytical, professional, and career-readiness capabilities.

Beyond her research and teaching, Hoa has held several significant academic leadership roles. She has served as Course Director for the Master of International Finance and the Master of Professional Accounting and Finance, and was previously Director of Teaching in the Department of Finance. She currently serves as Associate Head of School (Teaching and Learning – Undergraduate) at Deakin Business School, where she leads curriculum strategy, assurance of learning, and teaching quality across multiple disciplines.
