Associate ProfessorWei Luo

Wei Luo is a machine learning researcher at Deakin University working on the foundations of robust and trustworthy AI. His research develops a structure-aware perspective on machine learning, grounded in geometry, dynamics, and uncertainty, with the aim of enabling reliable learning from noisy, partial, and imperfect real-world data.

 

He studies how respecting underlying structure, including invariance, geometry, and temporal dynamics, allows models to recover meaningful representations and make stable decisions under distribution shift and uncertainty. His work spans uncertainty-aware learning, model robustness, and structure-informed inference, with applications in high-stakes domains including healthcare and cyber security.

 

He has also played a leadership role in AI education, serving as the inaugural director of Deakin’s Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence.
