BIO
Originally trained as a nurse and midwife, Professor Susan Brumby was the Foundation Director of the National Centre for Farmer Health based at Western District Health Service, Hamilton - a position she held for 13 years. The Centre is a partnership between Deakin University and Western
District Health Service and continues to grow. Having grown up in regional Victoria and managed the family farm (beef and wool), Professor Brumby continues to bring a personal commitment and enthusiasm for the rural and regional focus of the Deakin Medical School. She is confident that the National Centre for Farmer Health and the partnership with the Deakin Medical School can provide research, service delivery and education that will continue to provide local, national and international leadership to improve the health, wellbeing and safety of those living in rural and remote communities.
Professor Brumby has made significant contribution to research, teaching and service delivery methods for engaging farm men and women in discussion about their own health, wellbeing and safety. This is often a serious challenge for agricultural industries, farmers and rural health workers. She has held senior executive positions at regional health services and been on numerous boards including Western Victoria Primary Care Networks (WVPHN), TAFE, and state and government advisory groups in relation to agriculture, education and training.
