TEACHING EXPERTISE
Julie is an expert educator in both higher education and industry contexts. She was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2023 for distinguished service to tertiary education, and she holds Deakin University Vice Chancellor's Awards for Teaching Team of the Year and Distinguished Teaching; Deakin University Award for Teaching Excellence plus an Australian Government Office for Teaching and Learning Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning. Julie is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Julie played a key role in Deakin University's postgraduate emergency and critical care nursing courses from 2017-2023, leading curricula development, course enhancement, and increasing use of technology in higher education. Julie is a leader in the use of Team-Based Learning in nursing education and is an expert in the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing education programs aimed at increasing the quality and safety of patient care, workforce capacity, and research use in clinical practice. She also pioneered the development, implementation and evaluation of transition to speciality practice programs in emergency nursing, which are now a key strategy in gowing the emergency nursing workforce. Julie is an expert in practice change and design of educational strategies to support practice change in complex clinical environments. Julie has supervised 11 PhD, 18 Master's and 17 Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) students to completion.
