BIO

Professor Riddell is Deputy Dean and Associate Dean Teaching and Learning in the Faculty of Health and an affiliate member of the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition, Deakin University.

With 25 years experience in higher education, Professor Riddell is a committed university leader who values working collectively with colleagues to advance the quality of teaching, learning and research. Her commitment to higher education stems from an awareness of the transformative nature of universities for individuals and communities. Personal values of equity and inclusion are the motivators to ensure education and knowledge creation opportunities are open to all. Through a people first leadership approach, Professor Riddell works to ensure policy and processes effectively supports pathways into and though university studies for students, and enables excellence in teaching, learning and research. Through innovation in course design and delivery, Professor Riddell works to ensure Deakin offers degrees that meets career aspirations and community and workforce needs.

Professor Riddell originally trained as nutrition scientist and has taught nutrition sciences to undergraduate and postgraduate students and supervised nutrition research students in New Zealand, United States of American and Australia. Her commitment to excellence in teaching and learning was recognised by her peers in 2012 when she was awarded an Office for Learning and Teaching Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.

Professor Riddell's nutrition research program focused on the role of micronutrients in chronic disease prevention
and maintenance of health and food habits of young adults. In recent years she has pivoted her research focus to exploring sustainable strategies for leading education change and supporting student transition into and success within their university studies.
