MrMichael Sharman

Michael is an Education-Focussed Academic at the School of Architecture & Built Environment (a+b), Deakin University, with academic interests in the process-driven project learning strategies, enhancing student experience and developing agency in future architects. Michael's background has developed from industry experience towards academic pursuits, with a keen passion for teaching and student engagement.

Currently providing Leadership and engagement in roles as the Course Director of the Bachelor of Design (Architecture) and its associated combined degrees, a+b School Academic Progress and Integrity Chair, and SEBE Faculty Deputy Director of Student Conduct. Previous service includes being a member of the University Course Standards Committee (2019-2024), BEB Faculty Board representative (2020-2021)

Highlights within and beyond teaching, research and scholarship include leading multiple study tours across South East Asia through the Intercultural Dialogue through Design program (2012-2023), the Vision 2: Revitalisation of Central Geelong project (2012), Vital Signs: Live, Work and Play the Clever Future project (2019), and Kids+ Foundation Geelong Design project (2021).

Michael began as a Deakin academic in 2011, following 5 years of sessional academic activities (teaching and research). From industry, Michael worked for a small architectural practice, Archefusion, working on several residential and commercial projects, including the Omnilab Media (South Melbourne) and the Lorne Sea Baths.
