Teaching experience:
Dr Schultz has more than 15 years tertiary teaching experience in Australia and Canada. He has been unit chair and coordinator for a variety of units offered in Science, Marine and Biomedicine undergraduate programs. In 2023, he collaborated with A/Prof Jan West and Dr Adam Cardalini in designing and introducing Virtual Reality activities into practical classes for SLE221 to improve student engagement and learning on human heart structure and function.

STEM promotion:
Dr Schultz's passion for science has always extended beyond research and tertiary education, into schools and the community where he promotes science through a variety of platforms. Served as a Judge for three years at the Edmonton Regional Science Fair, a Canadian capital city platform for schools, at which students from grade 4 - 12 creatively and enthusiastically presented their research projects. In recent years, he has participated in Deakin-led ReMSTEP workshops with high school teachers and collaborated with B.Ed. undergraduate students to create engaging science practical class activities and resources, available online and widely accessed through Australia and globally (please see link for resources: https://blogs.deakin.edu.au/contemporary-science-practice-in-schools/). In 2018, he co-organised a highly successful symposium and workshop titled “Nanotechnology – the science and the social implications” uniting 40 school teachers and 5 nanotechnology scientists who collaborated in the creation of engaging nanotechnology online resources and classroom programs for high schools. Feedback from teachers using these tools has been extremely positive.

Dr Schultz has also engaged with more than 200 P-12 students across classrooms in Australia and Canada using Skype a Scientist.
