RESEARCH INTERESTS
Leading several independent and collaborative research projects in environmental and human toxicology identifying potential risks of chemicals of emerging concern (CECs) such as nanomaterials, micro/nanoplastics and agrichemicals to environmental and human health.
Collaborating in other high impact research projects in cancer evolution, fish physiology and aquaculture, nanomedicine and cancer drug screening using zebrafish embryos. PM if interested in discussing potential research collaborations.
Current projects led by Dr Schultz:
- Investigating the risks of Chemicals of Emerging Concern (CECs) to environmental and human health.
- Assessing the toxicity risks of micro and nanoplastics to freshwater and marine environments.
- Assessing the toxicity risks of micro and nanoplastics to human health.
- Measuring emerging contaminant levels in a ecologically important freshwater environment, Lake Colac
Collaborative projects:
- Thermal stress in teleost fish.
- Using zebrafish embryos to screen the bioavailability and safety of novel new cancer therapeutic compounds.
- Assessing the potential application of copper containing nanomaterials as cancer therapeutics.
- Nano-bioscaffold gels containing antibiotics for the treatment of buruli ulcer.
- Team member of CANECEV: Cancer ecology and evolution; investigating links between pollution and cancer in the environment (please see link for further details: https://canecev.org/)
