BIO
I am an internationally recognised researcher in sustainable materials, specialising in circular textiles, waste valorisation, biobased fibres, and advanced fibre technologies. My research addresses global sustainability challenges by transforming waste and renewable resources into high-value materials and products for textile, environmental, and biomedical applications.
Drawing on decades of experience across industry, research, and higher education, I have established a distinctive research program spanning fibre particle technologies, silk biomaterials, and natural and sustainable fibre innovations. My work combines fundamental fibre materials science with industry-focused solutions, creating pathways for circular manufacturing and more sustainable products and applications.
I lead multidisciplinary research that advances the circular economy through textile waste valorisation and sustainable product development. Working closely with industry, government, healthcare organisations, and international research partners, I have contributed to innovations ranging from textile waste-derived colourants and fibre-based functional materials to silk technologies for biomedical applications. Several of these innovations are progressing through patenting, commercialisation, and industry adoption pathways.
As Associate Director (Engagement and International) at Deakin University's Institute for Frontier Materials and leader of its Fibre Research Group, I contribute to the growth of international partnerships, research capability building, and industry engagement. Through leadership roles in advanced materials and specifically global fibre research networks, and collaborative research initiatives, I help shape the future direction of sustainable fibre and materials innovations.
My vision is to accelerate the transition to a circular textile economy through impactful research, international collaboration, and the translation of scientific discoveries into real-world environmental, economic, and societal benefits. For Deakin my vision is to position it as a globally recognised leader in sustainable materials innovation, fostering a vibrant, internationally connected ecosystem that brings together research, industry and global partners to deliver transformative impact.
