ProfessorJaclyn Broadbent

Jaclyn Broadbent is a leading educator and scholar in higher education with expertise in assessment and feedback, feedback literacy, and self-regulated learning. Her work focuses on designing learning environments that support students to actively manage their learning and on developing assessment and feedback practices that improve learning outcomes at scale.

Jaclyn built her career in teaching and learning beginning as a sessional academic and progressing to lead one of the largest psychology units at Deakin University, teaching more than 2,000 students each year. Through this work she developed a strong reputation for addressing complex teaching and learning challenges in large enrolment environments, including designing sustainable assessment and feedback practices and supporting teaching teams to implement high-quality, evidence-informed approaches.

She has also served as Course Director for the suite of Psychology Honours programs, where she focused on strengthening students’ research capability and academic preparation for postgraduate study and professional pathways.

Jaclyn’s approach to leadership is grounded in the view that teaching and learning are fundamental to academic life and sit at the nexus of research, scholarship, and practice. Her work centres on supporting academics to build their teaching capability and to apply research-informed approaches to curriculum, assessment, and student learning.

Her contributions to teaching excellence have been recognised through multiple awards, including an Australian Award for University Teaching (Teaching Excellence), an Australian Award for University Teaching Citation, and two Deakin University Teacher of the Year awards (individual and as team leader).
