Retired, Honorary role for some research projects

As an Honorary Professor of Education with the School of Education, Deakin
University, Australia, Coral brings together experience in industry, school
and tertiary education to inform her research and teaching. Focussed on
practitioner learning and students' understanding in science and STEM, Coral
has previously led several strategic research projects to interrogate the
complex issues underlying science and STEM education

Coral Campbell is a Professor of Science Education (retired) with the School
of Education, Deakin University Australia, based at the Geelong Waurn Ponds
campus. She has been an active member of Deakin University's Strategic
Research Centre - Research for Educational Impact (REDI), involved in the
Impact and Engagement subcommittee. Coral is the Australian Coordinator of
the Early Childhood Special Interest Group for the European Science Education
Research Association, having previously served for 6 years as a Board Director
of the Australasian Science Education Research Association.

Involved in industry, school and tertiary education for many years, Coral
brings these experiences together to inform her research. Coral's teaching and
research interests are in practitioner learning and students' understanding in
science and STEM, in all schooling sectors. She is currently involved in
several large nationally-funded projects related to developing new insights
and informing future directions in STEM. With a focus on early learning,
Coral's research trajectory has explored issues of Science/STEM including
creativity, gender and technologies through a number of funded projects.

Impacting the field, Coral led the development of the first research-based
Australian text for pre-service early childhood educators and practitioners,
Science in Early Childhood (Cambridge University Press), now in its fifth
edition. She has published several other books and contributed chapters in
other science and STEM education research publications. She contributes to a
broad range of journals and is on the review panels for several international
journals. In 2017, Coral won a scholarship from the Association of Graduates
of Early childhood Studies, to undertake research in early learning in STEM in
Europe.

Coral has been involved in teaching in early childhood, primary and secondary
science/STEM education areas, environmental education, and design technology
education.. She works closely with the local school communities, promoting
experiential learning for her education students. Over the years, Coral has
gained four teaching awards, and a Deakin Research Award for research
partnerships.
