BIO
I am a postdoctoral research fellow with the Centre for Regional and Rural Futures (CeRRF) at Deakin University. Currently, I work on multiple research projects that investigate the use of sustainable soil amendments to boost soil health and crop yields, whilst helping to mitigate climate change. For me, the highlights of working in the soil health space are that I have the opportunity to help resolve real world issues with food security and climate change, am able to work with different groups of people from a local level to the international scale, and also be a mentor for students and colleagues as part of my role.
I started at Deakin in 2012 as an undergraduate student completing a Bachelor of Biological Science. In 2015, I undertook an Honours degree at Deakin with Professor Lambert Brau’s research group, and followed up by completing my PhD investigating the role that beneficial microbes play in reducing metal(loid) induced stress to cropped plants between 2016 and 2020 under the guidance of Prof. Lambert Brau, Dr Lee Hudek, A/Prof. Damien Callahan, and A/Prof. Wendy Quayle. From 2015 onwards, I also undertook many teaching and research opportunities, including undertaking additional student projects and running practical classes for undergraduate students. These experiences led me to a part time unit chair role (SLE234 Microbiology) and part time research role in 2021 and transitioned into a full time research role from 2022 onwards with Professor Brau's team.
