TEACHING EXPERTISE
I teach marine science units within the School of Life and Environmental Sciences, and I am also the Course Director for Deakin’s Bachelor of Marine Science. We have two campuses – Warrnambool and Geelong – with each campus hosting one of two majors in our undergraduate degree. We’ve embraced the flexibility required by modern cohorts and ensure that time spent on campus is time spent involved in hands-on, experiential learning.
I take a personalised approach to supervision (Honours students and PhD candidates) aimed at recognising the unique strengths, interests and needs of each student and encouraging the development of independence, critical thinking, and a sense of ownership over their work. I have an open-door policy and believe in creating a supportive and accessible environment in which students feel comfortable discussing their ideas, concerns, and progress. I take the mentorship aspect of supervision very seriously and consider it my role to guide students not only in their research but also in their professional development and career advancement.
