BIO

As an interdisciplinary anthropologist, my research examines the intersections of gender, race, and culture through ethnographic and critical approaches. It is organised around three broad areas: (i) power, representation, and place; (ii) human rights, law, and public policy; and (iii) inequality across development, humanitarianism, and multiculturalism. I am particularly interested in contemporary trends that culturalise gender and sexual oppression (through appeals to religion and culture) and that sexualise and racialise political issues within security, conflict, development, and humanitarian contexts. My recent publications engage these concerns and contribute to debates on the renewed global feminist clashes between gender, human rights, culture, and law.
