TEACHING EXPERTISE
Jane's teaching and research interest centres on cross-professional and interprofessional education in ethics, law and professionalism. She teaches these topics across all four years of Deakin's Doctor of Medicine program, and also delivers lectures on the legal and professionalism aspects of clinical practice in Deakin's optometry and medical imaging programs. This cross-professional reach is grounded in her own diverse professional background spanning clinical practice as an optometrist, medical defence law and health practitioner regulation, which allows her to draw out the common ethical and legal threads that run across professions, as well as the discipline-specific nuances that students need to navigate in interprofessional practice.
Jane's teaching and learning philosophy centres on equipping students — across professions — to identify potential ethical, legal or professionalism issues as they arise in day-to-day clinical practice, critically analyse them, and confidently explain and justify a solution to colleagues, including those from other health disciplines.
