Projects
A/Prof McCaffrey's research interests concern informing policymakers about the value for money and equity impacts of approaches aimed at reducing the burden of cancer and improving the quality of life of people living with cancer and their families. Nikki also has a keen interest in using economic analyses to improve health and support services for informal carers, advancing methods of capturing outcomes for carers and people in palliative and end-of-life settings, and working with community members to inform her research.

Examples of current research include:
A social return on investment of a telephone cancer information and support service;
Economic evaluation of preoperative smoking cessation to prevent postsurgical complications;
Cost-effectiveness of training general practitioners in dermoscopy for skin cancer detection;
Patterns and predictors of health and social care use in the last year of life for people diagnosed with melanoma, acute myeloid leukaemia, and head and neck cancers.
