BIO
Simon completed his undergraduate degree (Applied Science - Human Movement, 2008), and postgraduate degrees (Master of Exercise Rehabilitation, 2012; PhD on the determinants and development of cricket pace bowling performance, 2015) at University of Ballarat / Federation University Australia. He was appointed as Lecturer in Functional Anatomy, Strength and Conditioning Sciences at Deakin in 2017, and since then, completed another postgraduate degree (Graduate Certificate of Higher Education Learning and Teaching, 2018). He is an accredited ASCA Level 2 (State/National Level) Strength & Conditioning Coach and is an industry recognised coach as an Associate Level Strength & Conditioning Coach as part of the ASCA Professional Coach Accreditation Scheme.
In cricket, Simon has strong links with Cricket Australia and Cricket Victoria where he conducts world-class research in the context of cricket pace bowling that explores disciplines of physical preparation, biomechanics, performance analysis, and coach education. He is a highly respected and knowledgeable fast bowling coach with over 10 years coaching experience specialising in fast bowling technique remediation to enhance bowling speed and durability. His coaching experience spans from international to recreational level fast bowlers, from ages 7-65.
Simon is the founder and director of Bowlstrong. Bowlstrong's mission is to bridge the gap between the science and practice of cricket pace bowling, so that pace bowlers and coaches are armed with the science to enhance performance. Through Bowlstrong, Simon publishes findings from the latest research on various social media platforms. He has attracted a large following on social media including current or former national / international level players, coaches, and support staff.
Outside of academia and cricket consultancy, Simon loves to spend time with his family, and likes to spend his downtime playing chess, golf, and music.
