Associate ProfessorCarolyn Holbrook

I am an historian with a particular interest in how historical insights can be applied for the benefit of contemporary society. My work ranges across areas of Australian and comparative cultural, policy and political history, including memory of the First World War and the Anzac legend, public health systems, conceptual understandings of national security, the cultural history of federalism and the place of railways in the Australian imagination. I was the founding director of the Australian Policy and History network from 2017-2026, and am the founder and director of the Australian Health & History digital archive. I am currently an editor of Australian Historical Studies and sit on the executive of the History Council of Victoria.
