RESEARCH INTERESTS

Research

Ruby's published research has primarily focused on cross-cultural communication, intercultural negotiation, and international business communication. Through this work, she has examined how individuals communicate, negotiate, and build relationships across cultural boundaries, contributing to understanding effective interaction in global business and intercultural contexts.

Building on this foundation, her current scholarly interests have evolved through her Education-Focused academic practice in Work Integrated Learning (WIL), Management education, and responsible management education. Her scholarly inquiry focuses on how students develop the capabilities, confidence, and professional identities required to successfully transition into professional practice and navigate increasingly complex global workplaces.

Ruby is particularly interested in the role of experiential learning, reflective practice, authentic assessment, employability development, and industry engagement in supporting student success and graduate outcomes. Through her teaching and curriculum leadership, she explores approaches that strengthen professional identity development, career readiness, and student engagement across diverse learner cohorts.

More recently, her scholarly activities has expanded into responsible management education, sustainability education, leadership development, teaching quality, and educational innovation. Her emerging Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) activities include collaborative projects like examining teaching quality - the Deakin Strategic Teaching Excellence project, authentic assessments, leadership development, and the use of artificial intelligence in business education.

Ruby's work is united by a commitment to understanding how learning experiences can better prepare students to contribute effectively, ethically, and confidently within professional, community, and global contexts.
