BIO
Helen Weston is a Teaching Scholar and Graduate Researcher in the School of Education, Deakin University. After a long history of serving in schools as an educator and leader, Helen moved into higher education, where she is committed to her roles.
She now works as a Lecturer and Unit Chair in the professional experience course programs. She has previously lead and collaboratively developed a state-wide mentor program, implemented in over 100 Deakin Alliance schools and as global education co-ordinator, supporting students learning to teach in Deakin’s International programs.
In addition, Helen has worked alongside Alliance academic mentors, to trial a research project in Alliance schools in 2023, investigating Effective Leadership in Numeracy that enhances numeracy practice.
Helen’s pedagogy draws on a constructivist approaches where she utilises learning through reflective experiences and social interaction, enabling learners to explore their teaching-becoming process. She is particularly interested in supporting preservice teachers in learning to support vulnerable students in areas of social disadvantage.
