BIO

Since her commencement as Lecturer in Architecture at School of A+B Deakin University, Sanja Rodeš has supervised more than 15 Master student theses and multiple PhD students (2 until completion), and has been involved in teaching, coordinating and revising of multiple units. She was appointed as Higher Degrees by Research Coordinator in July 2020, and chaired 30+ Confirmations of Candidature, attended multiple Progress Support Panels, and initiated and organized a number of HDR events in the School.

Rodeš is committed to advancing the history and theory in her field, and has engaged with diverse research outputs to integrate a wide range of perspectives and methodologies. Most notably, she published a research monograph: Sanja Rodeš, Architecture and the Image at the Turn of the 21st Century: After Visibility (New York; London: Routledge, 2024), and was an external editor and contributor (Serbia) for Lori A. Brown and Karen Burns (eds.), The Bloomsbury Global Encyclopaedia of Women in Architecture 1960-2015 (2025). She is actively participating in architectural academic community by attending conferences, symposiums and pedagogy workshops (some of which are: Interstices Under Construction Symposium, SAHANZ Conferences, IASTE Conference, and Listen Pedagogy Workshop). Rodeš was an elected SAHANZ Committee member and Communications manager (2021-26), and a member of Architecture VACANCY Lab (2020-present) led by Prof Mirjana Lozanovska.

Rodeš was a sessional academic at the School of Environment, Department of Architecture at Griffith University (2012-2016), and at the School of Architecture at University of Queensland (2016). After the completion of her master studies, she was employed at the School of Architecture at University of Belgrade in Serbia (2010-2011). While working in Belgrade, she collaboratively won prizes in architectural and urban planning competitions.

ARCHITECTURE VACANCY 1000 years Back Forward; Tracing the Transformation of Little Malop Street: Visualising Geelong’s Past through Digital Images (2022-23); co-investigator with Dr Md Mizanur Rashid and Dr Chin Koi Khoo; outcome: forthcoming book chapter, Md Mizanur Rashid, Sanja Rodeš and Chin Koi Khoo, “Tracing the Transformation of Little Malop Street: Visualizing Geelong’s Past through Digital Images,” in Mirjana Lozanovska and Ursula de Jong (eds.), Architectural Vacancy: Past and Futures of Geelong (Newcastle: Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2024). Project supported by internal grant, School of Architecture and Built Environment (affiliated with Architecture Vacancy Lab).

The Industrial Landscape of North Geelong: An Exploration of Perception and Memory Through Photographic Imagery (2020-21), co-investigator with Dr Cecilia de Marinis and Dr Ross T Smith; outcome: virtual exhibition at Geelong Design Week (2021). Project supported by internal grant, School of Architecture and Built Environment.
