DrMichalis Hadjikakou

I have a general interest in environmental sustainability with expertise in sustainability assessment & modelling, food systems, sustainable diets, and water resources management.

I hold a BA in Geography from the University of Cambridge (UK), a Master 1 in Earth and Environmental Science from Joseph Fourier University (Grenoble), an MSc in Water Science, Policy & Management from the University of Oxford (UK), and a PhD in Environment & Sustainability from the University of Surrey (UK) from where I graduated in January 2014.

I was Postdoctoral (2014-2016) and later Senior Research Associate (Jan 2017 - ) in the Water Research Centre and Sustainability Assessment Program (School of Civil & Environmental Engineering) at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), prior to joining the School of Life and Environmental Sciences at Deakin as Research Fellow in August 2017. I became Lecturer in Environmental Science & Sustainability in February 2020 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in January 2023. 

Recent career highlights include receiving a 2023 Deakin Vice-Chancellor's Mid-Career Researcher Award in recognition of my outstanding research performance; receiving a 2023 and 2024 School and Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award for my work on developing and chairing two new Masters’ subjects on ‘Environmental Science and Global Change’ and ‘Sustainability in the Anthropocene’; and receiving a Victorian Young Tall Poppy 2023 Award for my engagement with the general public about food systems.
