BIO

I am a teaching and research academic in the School of Education at Deakin University, with twenty-five years' experience teaching in Australian schools. I am the leader of the innovative post-graduate research training units provided through the School of Education, focussing on innovative curriculum design, contemporary challenges of AI in research and engaging resources for student learning.

My research intersects History and Interculturality, with particular focus on how students and educators value History and Humanities disciplines in schools and what this reveals about contemporary Australian society; informing evidence-based history curriculum policy; exploring multiperspectivity in teaching and assessment practices; and facilitating interculturality across the Humanities.

I have a track record of research engagement in collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects that also include teacher education, teacher identity, and positioning 'well-being' in academic labor. I draw on my experience and expertise in inclusive, cultural, history education and intercultural education. I am currently leading a project on 'relational uncertainty' in relation to race and culture in the classroom as a response to increasing concerns around racism and cultural discrimination in Australian schools.

My extensive teachng experience in schools and higher education directly inform my collegial research collaborations directly inform my engagement with pre-service teachers and Higher Degree Research supervision, which I approach with active involvement, critical rigour, and respect for student independence.
