BIO

Hourieh is a software engineering researcher and educator, currently serving as a Senior Lecturer in Software Engineering at the School of Information Technology, Deakin University.

With a multidisciplinary background spanning software engineering and artificial intelligence (AI), Hourieh is committed to advancing human-centric approaches in software development. Her work focuses on designing and building inclusive, user-informed, and socially responsible software systems that consider the needs, values, and experiences of diverse users.

Hourieh’s research sits at the intersection of software engineering and AI. She is particularly interested in bridging the gap between software engineers, data scientists, stakeholders, and end-users to co-create meaningful and ethical digital solutions. Her work explores how AI can be used to solve complex software engineering challenges, and conversely, how software engineering practices can be applied to improve the development, deployment, and trustworthiness of AI systems.

Through her teaching, research, and industry engagement, Hourieh aims to foster a new generation of software engineers who are not only technically proficient but also deeply attuned to the human and societal impacts of the systems they build.
