Associate ProfessorElizabeth Westrupp

Associate Professor Elizabeth Westrupp is a clinical psychologist (child and adolescent specialisation) and Associate Head of School (Research) in Deakin University's School of Psychology. Her research works to prevent mental illness in children before it begins, by supporting the adults who raise, care for, and educate them. Spanning emotion socialisation, parenting intervention science, digital mental health, and implementation science, her program examines how families and wider social environments shape children's development and mental health, and how to deliver effective, evidence-based parenting support, through personalised, digital tools, in the everyday settings of home and care, with a sustained focus on reaching families who are rarely served.

Associate Professor Elizabeth Westrupp is Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Mental Health & Prevention (Elsevier) and an active science communicator, with 18 parenting articles in The Conversation. As Associate Head of School (Research), an executive member of the Deakin Lifespan Institute, and chair of the national public-education Parent Day, she builds research capacity and develops early- and mid-career researchers into leaders.

Associate Professor Elizabeth Westrupp leads Daily Growth, a smartphone-based parenting program co-designed with more than 600 families and over 30 community professionals, now being trialled and scaled across three nationally funded randomised controlled trials with community, government, and Aboriginal partners. Her work is taken up in policy internationally, cited in 21 policy documents across around ten countries, including the United Kingdom's National Institute for Health and Care Excellence clinical guideline and the United States Surgeon General's youth mental-health advisory.
