I teach the history unit, African American History from Slavery to Black Lives Matter (AIH276). Since its introduction in 2019, the unit has been rated consistently excellent by students.

In the past, I have developed, co-taught and coordinated Deakin's two first-year history units, The Modern World: Nations, Empires, Ideologies (AIH107) and The Modern World: Globalisation and Fragmentation (AIH108).

At the University of Sydney and Monash University, I wrote and taught units for undergraduate and MA students on American imperialism, history methods, and history writing. I also designed and convened innovative, semester-long researcher development units for postgraduate research students in history and cognate disciplines.

Supervision experience

I have supervised around two dozen honours thesis students on a range of topics relating to United States and some Australian history. I welcome inquiries from all interested students--including those who are not quite sure yet what an honours degree entails.

The PhD and MA research students whom I have supervised have interests ranging from cultural to political to military history of the United States. One PhD student received the "best thesis" award for the Faculty at Monash in that year while another, at Deakin, found immediate employment in the public service in Canberra as a Senior Policy officer.
