BIO

Dr. Bahadorreza Ofoghi is a Senior Lecturer at Deakin University and Course Suite Director of Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science, overseeing five undergraduate and postgraduate programs with over 1,600 enrollments in the School of Information Technology. His research focuses on natural language processing and computational intelligence, with an emphasis on translating AI innovations into real-world impact. He received his PhD in natural language question answering systems in 2009 and has held research roles at Victoria University, the Victorian Institute of Sport, National ICT Australia, and the University of Melbourne. Dr. Ofoghi has secured A$545K in competitive research funding and A$58K in direct industry-funded research initiatives since 2019, including an ARC Discovery Project (2022), and has had collaborations with organizations such as the Victoria State Department of Health and Human Services and the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre. He has supervised multiple PhD students to timely completion, contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications, and served as an ARC Assessor and a reviewer for over 40 international conferences and journals. He is a regular Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) Rolling Review assessor. Dr. Ofoghi's teaching is defined by a structured, research-informed curriculum design in AI and computing, with particular attention to learning experience quality and student engagement, which has been formally recognized through the 2025 SEBE Teacher of the Year Award. He is also the Academic Program Coordinator for a transnational education partnership program delivered with the Sri Lanka Institute of IT, academically leading Deakin’s international engagement with SLIIT and the co-delivery of the Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence.
