DrLee Hamilton

I am an academic and researcher in exercise science and nutrition, with a background spanning molecular physiology, skeletal muscle biology, metabolic health and human exercise/nutrition science.

I completed my BSc (Hons) in Sports Biomedicine at the University of Dundee, graduating with first-class honours in 2005. I then undertook a PhD in Molecular Physiology at the University of Dundee from 2005 to 2009, where I was mentored by Professor Keith Baar. This training established my foundation in molecular and cellular approaches to understanding skeletal muscle adaptation and metabolic regulation.

Following my PhD, I moved to Dundee University Medical School as a Diabetes UK funded postdoctoral researcher from 2009 to 2012, working with Professor Mike Ashford. During this period, my research focused on the intersection between diabetes and dementia, broadening my expertise in metabolic disease, molecular physiology and neuro-metabolic signalling.

In 2012, I was appointed Lecturer in Health and Exercise Science at the University of Stirling, where I worked until 2018. During this time, I expanded my research into the molecular mechanisms of omega-3 action, alongside developing work in sports nutrition, exercise physiology, teaching and postgraduate student supervision.

I moved to Deakin University in August 2018 to take up a Lecturer in Exercise Physiology Across the Lifespan appointment within the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences. I am also a member of the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN), where my work contributes to research focused on exercise, nutrition and health across the lifespan.
