BIO

Dr. Siobhan Casey, a paediatric occupational therapist and Masters qualified play therapist believes in the transformative potential of play, drawing on occupational therapy, play therapy, and research to nurture resilience in children and families. Siobhan has worked in the school of Health and Social Development at Deakin contributing to both Occupational Therapy and Play Therapy as a Lecturer and Clinical Supervisor. Siobhan is currently in the role of Clinical Placement Coordinator, alongside lecturing roles. Siobhan's research revolves around understanding the developmental processes of regulation and play in strengthening resilience in children and families. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy at Deakin University in 2018, deepening her understanding of resilience and wellbeing for children and families and informing clinical practice across various settings.

Siobhan's clinical experience has involved working closely in community based and mainstream school settings, taking the time to understand the culture and experiences of teachers, families and children within the education system. Identifying gaps in knowledge and maintaining a passion for play in education, Siobhan completed the Master of Child Play Therapy and continues to consult with educators and allied health professionals, guiding the application of play development theory and relationship development principles in their practice.

Siobhan continues to speak to a wide variety of audiences across Australia on the topic of resilience in play and has particular interest in sharing research insights through media and public engagement. Her continuing research interests include translating play and play therapy theory to education and family systems, fostering more playful, resilient, and connected communities for children and families.
