BIO

Dr Abdul-Manan Sadick is a Senior Lecturer in Construction Management at the School of Architecture and Built Environment, Deakin University. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering with a specialisation in Construction Engineering and Management from the University of Manitoba, Canada, where he also earned a Certificate in Higher Education Teaching. His earlier qualifications include a Master of Science in Project Management from Northumbria University, United Kingdom, awarded through a Commonwealth Shared Scholarship, and a Bachelor of Science in Building Technology from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana.

 

Dr Sadick's research investigates building performance, indoor environmental quality, occupant wellbeing, and sustainable construction practices. In recent years, he has expanded his programme to explore artificial intelligence applications in the built environment, including natural language processing and machine learning approaches for construction and sustainability challenges. His development of sdgBERT (sadickam/sdgBERT · Hugging Face), an open-source model for mapping text to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, has attracted significant international attention, with more than two million downloads since its release.

 

His scholarship has been published extensively in leading journals, including Building and Environment, Energy and Buildings, and the Journal of Building Engineering. He received the 2022 Best Paper Award from Building and Environment and serves on the editorial board of Scientific Reports. Dr Sadick is an active participant in the International Energy Agency's Energy in Buildings and Communities Programme and is a member of the Physiology and Human Environment Technical Committee of ASHRAE.

 

Prior to entering academia, Dr Sadick accumulated industry experience as a project manager and quantity surveyor across multiple construction and infrastructure projects in Ghana. He is a certified Project Management Professional.
