BIO

Dr Marufa Sultana is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with Deakin Health Economics at the Institute for Health Transformation, Deakin University. Her research focuses on economic evaluation, health-related quality of life (HRQoL) measurement, health financing, and child and adolescent health, with a particular emphasis on improving health outcomes and equity in low- and middle-income countries and other underserved populations.

Marufa leads and collaborates on nationally and internationally funded research examining the cost and economic impact of health interventions, measurement and valuation of health outcomes, and healthcare resource allocation. She has a particular interest in child and adolescent HRQoL, preference-based measures, health inequalities, and the application of health economics to strengthen healthcare systems. Over her career, Marufa has published more than 75 peer-reviewed journal articles and secured over AUD 5.5 million in competitive research funding across roles as Chief Investigator, Co-Investigator and collaborator, including multiple grants from the EuroQol Research Foundation. Her research has informed healthcare policy and service delivery in Bangladesh and contributed to international evidence on health measurement and economic evaluation.

Before joining Deakin, Marufa held research positions at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b), and taught in postgraduate public health programs in Bangladesh and Australia. She brings extensive expertise in economic evaluation, health outcome measurement, quantitative methods, and program evaluation, underpinned by more than 12 years of research and academic experience. She is passionate about producing policy-relevant research that improves health equity, informs resource allocation, and supports evidence-based healthcare decision-making. Through strong international collaborations, she continues to advance research that strengthens health systems and improves population health outcomes globally.
