BIO

Understanding human behaviour is a difficult problem—and an even harder one when analysed through the lens of a computer. Motivated by this challenge, I develop computer vision-based solutions to multiple problems in human behaviour understanding.

For the last four years, my work has centred on the analysis of infant movements to assess the risk of neurological disorders. I lead the development of automated systems designed to assess the General Movements (GM) status and detect Fidgety Movements (FMs) in infants aged 3–5 months. This is a critical area of research, as the absence of FMs is a strong indicator of Cerebral Palsy (CP). For CP, early detection and early intervention are key to improve the long-term quality of life for these infants.

I completed my PhD in 2021 at Deakin University (Australia) with a thesis titled 'Human Behaviour Understanding in Computer Vision'. I also hold a Master's (2018) and a Bachelor's (2015) degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Pernambuco (Brazil).
