RESEARCH INTERESTS

I am deeply passionate about advancing fracture mechanics in metals, particularly in the context of industrial applications where material integrity is critical. My research focuses on understanding and predicting fracture behavior under dynamic conditions, with an emphasis on improving safety and efficiency in industries such as energy pipelines, advanced manufacturing, and structural engineering.

One of my key innovations is the Omega concept, a novel fracture toughness evaluation metric that enhances our ability to quantify material resistance during crack propagation. This methodology bridges the gap between traditional small-scale fracture tests and full-scale structural performance, significantly improving material characterization and safety assessment. The Omega approach has already gained strong industrial recognition, with applications in pipeline integrity, heavy-gauge steel evaluations, and energy transmission infrastructure.

Beyond fundamental research, my work has a direct impact on industry. Over the years, my research has successfully attracted over 1 million AUD in research funding, collaborating with leading industrial partners to integrate cutting-edge fracture mechanics into real-world applications. The goal is not only to advance scientific understanding but also to develop practical, scalable solutions that enhance structural reliability and reduce costly full-scale testing requirements.
