DrAlethea Jerebine

Dr Alethea Jerebine is an Executive Dean of Health Postdoctoral Research Fellow within the Deakin Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition and the School of Health and Social Development at Deakin University.

Alethea's research looks at how children and adolescents move, play and take risks, with a focus on outdoor risky play, physical activity and physical literacy. Her work examines the socio-cultural and policy contexts that shape young people's opportunities to spend time outdoors, including early childhood and school environments, education policy and community attitudes towards risk.

Alethea uses qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods, from surveys, statistical modelling and field-based assessments to direct observation, interviews and virtual reality. This approach brings together the experiences and perspectives of children, families, educators and policymakers. Her work aims to inform policy and practice that support young people's health, wellbeing and access to beneficial risk-taking.
