RESEARCH INTERESTS
Dr Moffitt has broad research expertise in applied psychology, intervention science, and emotional, psychological, and physical health. Dr Moffitt is interested in theoretical questions, comparing subcomponents of psychological models, and disentangling the processes and mechanisms of change underlying the effectiveness of psychological interventions in applied contexts. Dr Moffitt designs and evaluates cognitive interventions, including acceptance and compassion-based approaches (i.e., ACT, CFT), for special groups, including among people living with a chronic illness, and among people going through emotionally challenging periods (i.e., pregnancy or the perinatal period). Her research explores diverse outcomes such as psychological health and well-being, health behaviour (i.e., eating and exercise), women's health, sport and exercise performance, and body image. A particular area of research focus is the interaction between self-compassion, self-criticism, perfectionism, guilt, and shame.
Dr Moffitt is a member of the Intervention Sciences research theme in SEED Lifespan (https://seed.deakin.edu.au/our-research/theme/intervention-sciences/), the Mind-Body Research in Health Laboratory (https://www.deakin.edu.au/faculty-of-health/research/mind-body-research-in-health-laboratory), and the Deakin Network Against Gendered Violence (https://dnagv.deakin.edu.au/). She is part of a research advisory team with Peer Support Australia who run a peer-led structured program designed to improve resilience, sense of self, connectedness, and sense of possibility in primary school children. Dr Moffitt is also an Associate Editor for the international journal Applied Psychology: Health and Well-Being.
