The accelerating pace of change in almost every aspect of our lives is placing new demands on our students. Higher education should now concern more than acquiring knowledge within a single discipline. We must teach our students how to solve complex multidisciplinary challenges by bringing fresh perspectives to global challenges for societal benefit. I use my own intensely multidisciplinary research background in inclusive and engaging teaching styles and approaches that cater for a diversity of students. In particular I discuss how the next wave of automation will favour certain kinds of expansive thinking that will be less vulnerable to AI.
