BIO

Dr Ceridwen Owen is a Lecturer in Education and Director of Professional Experience in Deakin University's School of Education. She leads professional experience across all of Deakin's Initial Teacher Education programs, a portfolio spanning thousands of preservice teacher placements each year in schools and early childhood services across Victoria and beyond. Her work brings together placement systems, curriculum design, and partnerships so that preservice teachers learn to teach in settings where they are understood, supported, and challenged.

Ceridwen's research asks what conditions allow people to become, develop, and do meaningful work as teachers and professionals. Drawing on Figured Worlds theory and the ethics of care, she studies professional identity formation across teacher education, and higher education. Her work includes investigating how early career teachers navigate their first years in the profession and how academics take up new pedagogical and digital practices. She collaborates with researchers in Australia and internationally, including at Monash University, Penn State University, and Deakin's Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning (CRADLE), and her writing on care in teacher education appears in invited international collections.

Ceridwen works closely with the Victorian Department of Education on initiatives that strengthen professional experience and support new pathways into teaching, including as project lead of Placement Plus: Wyndham and through Deakin's employment-based teacher preparation partnership. She represents Deakin in NADPE, the national network of Directors of Professional Experience, and is a trained AITSL accreditation panellist.

Ceridwen teaches in the Master of Teaching, supervises practitioner research, and welcomes enquiries about research collaboration, professional experience partnerships, and supervision.
