As a teacher, I have had the pleasure of working as a casual academic for both the School of Life and Environmental Science and the School of Medicine. I have demonstrated for the following units: Biochemistry, Biochemical Metabolism, Microbiology, Systems Physiology, Principles of Gene and Genomic Technology and Cells and Genes for first and second-year undergraduates. Part of my role as a casual academic allowed me to mark assessments and reports for these subjects, as well as invigilate practical examinations for several subjects.
These opportunities have significantly contributed to my professional development as I improved my communication and organisational skills, sense of accountability and maintenance of high standards. Furthermore, I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to engage with students in a meaningful manner, assisting them in identifying gaps in their knowledge base and creating a learning experience that was enjoyable for all.
