DrJooyoung Kim

Lecturer, Management

Faculty of Business and Law/Deakin Business School

BIO

Jooyoung Kim is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Management at Deakin Business School, having joined Deakin in 2022 after completing her PhD in Strategic Management at Michigan State University, United States. Her work examines strategic leadership, specifically, how the surface-level characteristics (e.g., demographic diversity) and deep-level characteristics (e.g., personality and cognition) of CEOs, top management teams, and boards of directors shape firms and their stakeholders. A distinctive feature of her research is its bridging of macro and micro perspectives, tracing how executives' characteristics cascade through organisations to affect middle managers and employees. Her work appears in leading management journals including the Academy of Management Annals (A* at ABDC list), Journal of Applied Psychology (A* at ABDC list),  Personnel Psychology (A* at ABDC list),  and the Journal of Business Research (A at ABDC list) and her research on CEO narcissism has been featured in outlets such as PsyPost and I/O at Work. She serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Management (A* at ABDC list) and Strategic Organization (A at ABDC list), and her work was recognised with a Best Paper at the 2024 Academy of Management conference.
