RESEARCH INTERESTS
My case study will be with people who collect and redistribute food that would otherwise be wasted. There are several such organizations worldwide, but I specifically am studying the ones in India that take already cooked food from weddings, festivals, and events. That is because there are many organizations already that collect food from grocery stores, bakeries, farms, and dumpsters in the US and Australia, but not many that collect already prepared food. The main organization I am looking at is Robin Hood Army, and I will be working with them in Jaipur, India collecting and distributing food.
Because my case study is in India, I am also looking at dimensions of food security, access, waste, and sustainability that are specific to India. I hope to use this project to expand knowledge about global food waste as well as specific issues that pertain to food waste in India.
In the past I have studied very different topics, such as cults, lyrical analysis in punk music, bilingual expression in American Hispanics, and more. I did my Master's thesis on indigenous representation in museums in Argentina, comparing how museums showed indigeneity to how indigenous cultural centers showed their own culture and history.
I have also studied and taught writing classes and do creative writing on the side.
In addition to academic pursuits, I have a long history of activism and advocacy for many issues, such as: refugees and immigration, the environment, poverty and homelessness, gender and sexuality, disability and chronic illness, neurodivergence and mental health, war and violence, police brutality, racial and ethnic equality. I care about other issues too but I can only do so much at a time.
